Day 1: Departure for Tbilisi
Day 2: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Uplistsikhe – Gori
We drive to the ancient capital of Georgia – Mtskheta and visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. After 40 km on the main road we continue on off-roads. The first 10 km we drive on a dirt road and then up the hill before descending down the steep rocky slope to the ancient cave town of Uplistsikhe. The drive requires great attention and precision. Overnight in Gori.
Day 3: Gori – Bakuriani
We travel to Bakuriani ski resort (1800m). We mostly drive on off-roads passing little villages on the way. After lunch we drive up forested hills to Mt Kokhta (2100m) to get superb views of the Grand Caucasus mountains. We then travel through virgin nature to the village of Tsikhisjvari. Here we have a chance to take naturally hot sulphur baths. Overnight in Bakuriani.
Day 4: Bakuriani – Tskhratskaro Pass – Tabatskuri Lake – Bakuriani
A scenic drive through beautiful forests and alpine meadows will bring us to Tskhratskaro Pass (2454m) and then we drive down the volcanic plateau to Tabatskuri Lake. After a nice walk around the lake we return to Bakuriani.
Day 5: Bakuriani – Mt Alevis Klde – Gudauri
The first two hours we drive on the main road (100km) and then head north and that’s where a real off-road begins. The scenery changes from forested slopes to alpine meadows. The last 200 metres to the top (1974m) is particularly impressive as we drive in wild flower fields with the blue sky ahead of us. We enjoy superb views of the Caucasus moun
tains as we have delicious barbequed meat for lunch and then continue down a challenging and a bit dangerous road. At last we are on the main Georgian Military Highway and in an hour we get to our comfortable hotel in Gudauri ski resort.
Day 6: Gudauri – Kazbegi – Gudauri
We travel in the Grand Caucasus mountains and that already means the day will be full of adventures. Ancient towers, beautiful little lakes and geysers, deserted villages, a church perched on hilltop (2170m) and the Caucasus glaciers seem so close! Some places can be reached only by jeeps. The roads are not difficult but we still have to drive carefully.
Day 7: Gudauri – Ananuri – Tianeti – Tbilisi
An unforgettable day awaits us today. We drive through hornbeam woods. The unbeaten tracks have been driven only by our jeeps before and it definitely takes a really experienced driver to find the way. We drive among trees on wet surface covered with leaves for about two hours, the speedometer reads only 5km/h. We get a reward as we arrive in Tbilisi – all comforts of the hotel and traditional feast with Georgian wine. Tbilisi sulphur baths with massage would be a good idea if you want to recover from the whole week’s tiredness.
Day 8: Tbilisi – Departure
Tbilisi sightseeing tour, visit the Old Town and the State Museum Treasury. In the evening transfer to the airport.
