Ski Mountaineering in the Great Caucasus
The Great Caucasus mountains – home to perpetually snow-capped summits, ideal place for ski touring, yet still undiscovered.
Just a couple of hours drive from the capital and you are in the heli-ski resort of Gudauri (2200m). An hour more and you can start ascending Mt. Kazbegi (5047m) – one of the best alpine touring destinations. The itinerary is similar to Mt. Kazbegi climbing trip.
Should you decide you need few days to get acclimatised before ski mountaineering, we suggest practicing in Gudauri ski resort first.

• Day 1: Departure for Tbilisi

• Day 2: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Kazbegi

In the morning we meet a mountain team and travel along the Georgian Military Highway. En route we visit the ancient capital Mtskheta and Ananuri complex. We reach the town of Kazbegi and overnight there.

• Day 3: Climb up to Meteorological Station

We start our ascend from the village of Gergeti to the Meteorological station. We reach Gergeti Glacier and enjoy views of Gergeti Trinity Church and snow-capped peaks. Arrive at the meteorological station in the afternoon.  Ski around the station. Overnight at the station.

• Day 4: Climb up Mt. Kazbegi

This is the day to get to the summit. First  we will walk along the southern slopes of the mount Kazbegi. From the plateau we will continue walking along snowy and icy covered cliffs and reach one of the glaciers ( 4900 m ). From this place the way goes to the main glacier along the rocks, snow and ice ( easily climbing up approx. 40 -45 ).In case of good weather Kazbegi glacier gives us the superb view of the main range of the  Caucasus mountains  and also of the highest peak of it  - Mt. Elbrus (5624 m). Walking time – 7-8 hours. We will need the consentration  while climbing down. Overnight as on the previous day.

• Day 5 : Free day or Meteorological station – Kazbegi – Tbilisi

In case of good weather will we peacefully climb down to Kazbegi and then transfer to Tbilisi. Walking time – 3-4 hours.

• Day 6 : Meteorological station – Kazbegi – Tbilisi

Transfer to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.
