Climb Up Mount Kazbegi

After a late breakfast, we start our Tbilisi sightseeing tour to get acquainted with the city. Walking through the historical part of the city and enjoying the unique combination of cultures.

Meandering through the narrow streets of the city we will come-across various religious buildings: Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, Wooden houses built in the 19th century with colourful balconies, sulphur baths, the Narikala fortress.

Next, we take in the Georgian National Museum, where a great many intricate Georgian treasures are preserved. To finish up this introduction to the city we peruse Rustaveli Avenue which is the main central boulevard.

The rest of the day is left for exploring Tbilisi further, tasting wine in one of the many wine-bars, and getting acquainted with Georgian cuisine in one of the many great restaurants in the city centre.

In the morning we travel from Tbilisi to nearby Mtskheta and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site: Jvari Monastery built in the 6th century high up on the hill overlooking Mtskheta.

From Jvari Monastery we have an amazing panoramic view of the city with confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers.

In the afternoon we follow the military road, which is one of the most spectacular routes in Georgia.

This day ends in the marvellous village of Juta.

A morning spent in Juta will be special for wildlife seekers. A village far apart from modern chaos and the accelerated rhythm of life is like an earthly paradise.

In the morning we will start walking to the first peak, Tetu Peak (3210 m).

Amazing panoramas are unfold during the hike. If we are lucky and have clear skies, we will see snow-capped glaciers and other peaks of the great Caucasus on foot.

At the end of the day, we will stay in Stepantsminda, which is the administrative center of the region.

(↑↓1250m, 7-8 hours, 16km).

Early in the morning, at 06:00 we start the hike from Stepantsminda (1700 m) through the village of Gergeti to the Gergeti Trinity Church (2170 m).

From the church, we can enjoy beautiful views of Stepantsminda and the Great Caucasus Mountains.

Then we will continue our way to the meteorological station, which was built in 1933 (3680 m).

 (↑2000m, 8 hours, 14km).

The sixth day is dedicated to acclimatisation. After breakfast, we will walk near Meteo (4000 m) and return in about an hour.

After lunch, we will have 1-2 hours of basic mountaineering training. We will go to bed earlier because our hike starts at midnight.

Early in the morning, at 02:00 we start the hike. The route is 12 kilometers and takes 13-14 hours to cover. The west road is narrow and leads in a north-westerly direction.

We will reach the glacier from the southwest. The second peak of Kazbegi can be seen from here.

Then begins a long, tiring hike on a snow-covered and icy mountain to the middle of the glacier.

A little bit later, the hike becomes easier, but the last 100 meters are quite difficult – we have to climb here.

After conquering the peak we return to the meteorological station filled with amazing feelings.

If due to bad weather we could not climb the glacier the day before, we can try to conquer it again today.

In case of successful climbing of the glacier on the seventh day, we will relax on this day.

The ninth day is for making our way back. After resting we will start trekking in the direction of Stepantsminda.

In the afternoon we will have a transfer from Stepantsminda to Tbilisi.
